1And Jacob dwelt in the land of his father's sojournings, in the land of Canaan.2These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, a son of seventeen years, was shepherding his brothers with the flock, and he was a youth with the sons of Bilhah and with the sons of Zilpah, wives of his father. And he brought their evil report to their father.3Israel loved Joseph more than all his other sons because he was the son of his old age, and he made him a tunic of stripes.4His brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, and they hated him and could not speak to him peaceably.5Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brothers, and they hated him even more.6And he said to them, "Please hear this dream that I have dreamed."7Look, we were binding sheaves in the middle of the field, and look, my sheaf rose up and stood upright, and look, your sheaves gathered around and bowed down to my sheaf.8And his brothers said to him, "Will you reign as king over us? Or will you indeed rule over us?" And they continued to hate him because of his dreams and his words.9He dreamed another dream and told it to his brothers. He said, "Look, I dreamed a dream again, and look, the sun and the moon and eleven stars are bowing down to me."10He told it to his father and his brothers, and his father rebuked him and said to him, "What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow down to you to the earth?"11His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the word.
